Most homeowners never think about what's happening under their feet. Out of sight, out of mind - right up until it becomes a real problem. A neglected crawlspace doesn't just sit there quietly. It actively works against your home, pushing moisture, odors, and contaminated air up through your floors and into the living space above.
Here's what we were working with on this one. Debris had built up across the crawlspace floor, the old barrier material was shot, and the ductwork wasn't set up to do its job properly. Before anything else could happen, we had to get in there and clean it out completely - and that's exactly what we did.
Once the space was cleared and treated, we laid down a proper vapor barrier across the full crawlspace floor. The barrier we use is reinforced - it's built to hold up, not just sit there and deteriorate in a few seasons. Keeping ground moisture from rising up into your floor system is one of the most important things you can do for a home built on a crawlspace, and it starts with doing this part correctly.
Then came the ductwork. What was down there wasn't moving air the way it should have been. We corrected it - new sheet metal distribution box, proper collar connections throughout, sealed tight. When your duct system is set up right under the house, your HVAC equipment doesn't have to fight as hard, and the air coming out of your vents is actually coming from where it's supposed to.
The crawlspace is one of those parts of a home that rarely gets the attention it deserves. When it's neglected long enough, you feel the effects upstairs - musty smells, uneven temperatures, poor air quality - without ever connecting it back to what's underneath. Getting this space right means the whole house works better.
